About Buck Head Wildlife
We run replicated test plots every year for our seed business, carefully collecting data on yield, moisture, and test weight before harvest. A few years back, we started testing high-oil corn. While it didn’t always yield as high as we hoped, something caught our attention: the rows of high-oil corn were completely stripped — kernels gone from most of the ears — while the rows of regular corn right beside them were untouched.
We were flabbergasted. It didn’t take long to realize who the culprits were — the deer had cleaned us out!
Back in the office, we couldn’t help but wonder: if deer loved this corn so much, maybe deer hunters and land managers would too. That question led us to search for an expert in deer plots — and that’s when we found Tony LaPratt from Ultimate Land Management and Whitetail Boot Camp in Coldwater, Michigan.
We showed Tony what we were seeing in the field, and he decided to test the high-oil corn on his own land. The following fall, Tony came back excited — the results were undeniable. The deer were drawn to the high-oil corn unlike anything he had ever seen.
From there, a partnership was born. With Tony’s encouragement, we launched a new brand dedicated to this incredible discovery — Buck Head Wildlife.
Now, let’s talk about why it works.
Do you like gravy on your potatoes? Cheese on your burger? Butter on your popcorn? Most people do — because fat enhances flavor. The same concept applies to deer. High-oil corn is higher in fat, more flavorful, and more nutritious, making it irresistibly attractive to deer and other wildlife.
Buck Head Wildlife is a division of Partners Brand Seed Company, a family-owned business. Our high-oil corn is proudly produced under irrigation in Howe, Indiana, by Lord’s Seed (LLT Group LLC).
